Things to look out for in Serie A: Matchweek 5

The Serie A midweek action will resume tonight as Napoli and Inter Milan seek to accumulate points. Here is a look at some of the talking points. Bet on football here.

Edin Dzeko to stand out?

Roma are aiming to add to their fine run of form in Serie A when they host Atalanta on tonight. The visitors are hoping to return to winning ways here and whereas we are backing them to score a couple, there is a good chance they are not going to keep a clean sheet. The hosts can rival Atalanta’s scoring form going forward. With Edin Dzeko fit you can expect lots of drama as the forward has three from three at home this term. He also has an incredible record against Atalanta, following four goals and an assist in five against this opposition.

Bologna’s impressive start to the season to continue

Bologna have had a brilliant start to the season and despite losing their last fixture against Roma they have done well so far. Their next test will be against Genoa and we expect a very exciting fixture. They are the only side to rack up over ten Expected Goals in the first four games of the campaign. To this end, they have scored seven times already, while their last away trip saw them hit four goals away to Brescia, pointing to another good outing for them

Inter Milan to prove title credentials

Inter Milan continued their perfect start to the season with a 2-0 victory over rivals AC Milan on Saturday night. They will be out to demonstrate their title credentials when they face Lazio in midweek ahead of clashes against Barcelona and Juve in the next coming 11 days. They showed their mettel against AC Milan at the weekend, now they need to confirm this against a team who tend to disappoint in this kind of fixture.

Fiorentina’s struggles far from over

Sampdoria’s poor start to the season could be a thing of the past as they travel to Fiorentina on the back of a win. The hosts have won just two of their last 24 matches in Serie A since the beginning of the year. The host are winless in their last 18 league games, which includes a run of seven losses in ten matches and this has left them near the bottom of the table yet again. They have now failed to score in six of their last seven Serie A home games and Sampdoria have lost just once in their last five visits complicating matters.

Napoli to extend excellent record against Cagliari

Napoli’s season is going from strength to strength and they will be out to keep it that way when they host Cagliari. The Partenopei have won their previous seven meetings with Cagliari and on current form, we can only see this one going to the home side. Carlo Ancelotti’s men enjoyed three straight wins in the space of eight days. The visitors also have scoring form at this ground, having scored in three of their last four visits and they will not go down without a fight.

Big Game Focus: Barcelona v Villarreal

Barcelona will face a tough test when they host Villarreal as they look to put a bad run of form behind them. Bet on the match here.

Villarreal are in the very unusual position of travelling to Camp Nou while being a place above eighth placed Barcelona in the table. We definitely expect a very entertaining fixture seeing that these are the two highest scoring teams in La Liga this season with 12 goals each.

Ernesto Valverde’s side’s recent defensive efforts have been far from convincing as they have conceded at least two goals in their last four La Liga games. It is clear that this Tuesday’s clash will be extremely important for Valverde as his future with Barcelona may hinge on this game.

Betting preview

Barca have clearly had a catastrophic start to the season following two losses and a draw. However, they can boast of a perfect record at home where they have won all their league games. They beat Real Betis 5-2 before recording the same score against Valencia a few weeks later. Barcelona have won their last four home games against Villarreal with at least a two-goal difference and backing a -1 Handicap Home Win looks good at odds of 1.75.

Barcelona have found the net in three of their last five meetings in La Liga. Villarreal have scored in their last five outings. Both Teams to Score have landed in five of their last seven encounters and it is the way to go here at odds of 1.55.

The last meetings between the two formations in recent years have been rather spectacular. Three of the last five meetings have seen Over 2.5 Goals scored, including an incredible 4-4 last year at Villarreal. Odds of 1.30 looks fair for Over 2.5 Goals

Team news

Barca will again be deprived of the services of left-back Jordi Alba because of a hamstring problem and Samuel Umtiti who is injured. Ousmane Dembele could return whilst Lionel Messi should start for the first time this season. Arthur and Sergio Busquets should both return to the starting lineup as well.

Bruno Soriano and defender Alberto Moreno are expected to miss the match due to injury for the visitors. Karl Toko Ekambi, Samuel Chukwueze, Manu Trigueros and Mario Gaspar are all options in that area. Moi Gomez and Santi Cazorla should keep their place in the starting lineups

Possible lineups

Barcelona: Ter Stegen, Roberto, Pique, Lenglet, Semedo, Arthur, Busquets, De Jong, Messi, L Suarez, Griezmann.

Villarreal: Asenjo, Quintilla, Torres, Albiol, Pena, Iborra, Cazorla, Gomez, Chukwueze, Moreno, Ekambi.

Top 5 Bets for the Week: September 24-27

This week serves up another line-up of exciting matches across Europe. We’ve looked through the stats and odds and came up with Top 5 Bets for the Week for you to reflect on. Bet on these games here.

Monaco v Nice – Both Teams to Score – 1.85

Monaco are yet to record any victories this season. They have conceded at least two goals in five of their last six Ligue 1 outings.  Nice are third in Ligue 1 with four wins and two losses in their six league matches this season. In all of those games, both teams have found the back of the net. Both teams have also scored in three of their last four encounters.

Inter Milan v Lazio – Inter Milan Win – 2.05

Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan have made a perfect start to the season and have been tipped to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title this season. The Nezaruzzi have won all of their four Serie A games this season and look set to continue when they face Lazio in a huge encounter. Lazio, on the other hand, have won two of their four league games this term. Inter have won three of the last five meetings with Lazio. Inter’s early season form points to another home win.

Leganes v Athletic Bilbao – Athletic Bilbao Win – 2.70

Athletic Bilbao are one of only three unbeaten teams in La Liga this season and currently sit top of La Liga. Bilbao have won three and drawn two of their five matches, with one of those victories coming against Barcelona. Meanwhile, Leganes sit rock bottom of La Liga with a point after five games. Bilbao have won their last three matches against Leganes.

Saint-Etienne v Metz – Over 2.5 Goals – 2.00

Both Saint-Etienne and Metz have had a dismal start to the season and sit 17th and 18th in Ligue 1 respectively. The hosts are winless in their six league games this season while Metz have won once in six but have lost their last four in a row. Three of Metz’s last five games have seen three or more goals scored. Four of Saint-Etienne’s last six Ligue 1 encounters have seen Over 2.5 Goals scored. Four of the last five meetings between these two have seen Over 2.5 Goals.

Eibar v Sevilla – Sevilla Win – 2.20

Sevilla suffered their first defeat of the season by the hands of Real Madrid on Sunday. Before that, they were undefeated. Still, they sit fifth in the table on ten points just one behind league leaders Atheltic Bilbao after three wins, a draw and one defeat in their five games. For the hosts, they have drawn two and lost three of their five league games this term. Sevilla have also beaten them three times in the last four meetings. This is not an ideal game for Eibar to find some form and in their current circumstances, victory over Sevilla might be a step too far.

Winners and Losers in the Premier League: Matchweek 6

The weekend witnessed plenty of action in the Premier League, with Liverpool and Manchester City both winning their fixtures, whilst other big clubs failed in their fixtures. Here is a look at some of the winners and losers. Bet on football here.

Winners

Title hopefuls

Manchester City put their Norwich nightmare behind them as they blew away Watford at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez were all unplayable. This should instill some much-needed confidence in their rejigged back four and you can take it that this was a real statement of intent to their title rivals. Elsewhere, Liverpool went five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Reds always looked fragile at the back, but they have the experience to grind out a result even when they are not playing very well.

Brendan Rogers’ project at Leicester City

With six games into the new Premier League season, Leicester City are looking pretty in third spot ahead of Arsenal in the table. Brendan Rogers has been able to transform this team and nothing typifies that than their home win against Tottenham. James Maddison’s fine strike completed the comeback for Leicester after they went 1-0 down in the first half.

West Ham United

West Ham continued their fine start to the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United. The result ensured that Manuel Pellegrini became the first manager to win league games against four different Manchester United managers (David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer). They have now moved to fifth in the table – 12 places and seven points better off than at the same stage last season.

Unai Emery

Arsenal orchestrated a comeback to win 3-2 with ten men on the pitch against Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium. There were more than a few questions asked about Unai Emery after they failed to protect a 2-0 lead against Watford last week. However, he managed to dispel fears whilst confirming that he is a coach who can react quickly when things are not going well.

Losers

Manchester United

Manchester United produced another uninspiring performance as they went down 2-0 against West Ham United. The visitors looked lethargic from the off and this allowed their opponents to dictate the tempo of the game. Their situation was worsened when Marcus Rashford limped off to become the latest name on a lengthy list of absentees.

Watford

Watford conceded five goals in the first 18 minutes when they played Manchester City in what became the most embarrassing defeat so far in the league. Quique Sanchez Flores was forced to make a change in the 33rd minute bringing on Roberto Pereyra for Dimitri Foulquier who had a debut to forget. They were completely outplayed and they will want to move on from this result soonest.

St. James Park faithful

The Newcastle faithful continued their protest over the weekend as the club recorded their lowest Premier League attendance for nine years. The situation was not made any better by the fact that the home side struggled to string a pass together and did not look sharp in attack. This could just be the beginning of another frustrating season if nothing is done.

Marco Silva

Pressure continued to pile on Everton manager Marcos Silva who saw his side lose 2-0 at home against Sheffield United. This was their third defeat in four league games and they have dropped to 14th in the table. Silva has limited time to turn things around or we could be in for a change of manager soon should the trend continue.

Big Game Focus: Chelsea v Liverpool

Both Chelsea and Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways after they both lost their Champions League openers. The two clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The visitors have won all their five Premier League games this season while Chelsea secured a huge win last time out. Here’s the Big Game Focus. Bet on the Premier League here.

Chelsea top-four credentials will be put to test on Sunday when they welcome league leaders Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The Blues recorded a huge 5-2 away win at Wolves last weekend but were defeated in the Champions League on Tuesday by Valencia. Can Frank Lampard’s team inflict defeat on an in-form Liverpool?

Liverpool, meanwhile, are five points clear at the top of the table after just five games. The Reds have won a staggering 14 consecutive matches in the league and will be looking to extend their record. Jurgen Klopp’s men have already found the net 15 times in the league this season and given how Chelsea’s defence has performed in their five games, they could be in for a long evening.

Betting preview

Liverpool have won their last 14 Premier League matches in a row, a run that started in March. Chelsea have won just three of their last ten games in the league and are winless in their two home games this season. Therefore, you can back an Away Win at odds of 1.95.

The visitors have scored at least two goals in each of their last 14 Premier League games. Chelsea, meanwhile, have conceded at least two goals in four of their five league games this season. The Reds have kept just one clean sheet in seven games in all competitions this season. For that reason, you can back Both Teams to Score at odds of 1.50.

Mohamed Salah has scored five goals in nine appearances against Chelsea. The Egyptian has scored four goals in seven appearances in all competitions this term. Odds of 2.25 for Mohamed Salah as Anytime Goalscorer are attractive.

We’re also giving you a great offer if Salah scores. If you bet on the game, it loses, but Salah scores, you get your money back. Read more about it here.

Team news

Chelsea will be without Mason Mount after he picked up an ankle injury against Valencia, joining N’Golo Kante and Antonio Rudiger on the sidelines. Callum Hudson-Odoi could play a part after coming back from a long knee injury, while Reece James will be assessed before kick-off.

Naby Keita and Alisson unavailable for Liverpool.

Possible line-ups

Chelsea: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Christensen, Alonso, Jorginho, Kovacic, Willian, Abraham, Pulisic

Liverpool: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane

Top 5 Bets for the weekend: 21st -22nd Sept.

There is plenty of action during this coming weekend with the Milan derby amongst others on the menu and we have combed through the odds to find you the top five bets for your consideration. Bet on football here.

Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur – Premier League – Home Win Double Chance – 1.55

Leicester will be out to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they face Tottenham on Saturday in the Premier League. The Foxes have only lost one of their eight Premier League home games since Brendan Rodgers took charge in February and have taken points off both Arsenal and Chelsea in the process. Tottenham are winless on the road in the league since January, losing six of their last eight away games. All things considered here, backing a Leicester Win or Draw Double Chance looks excellent value for money.

Werder Bremen v RB Leipzig – Bundesliga – Home Win – 3.90

RB Leipzig hope to continue their unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season when they face Werder Bremen. The hosts narrowly missed out on Europa League qualification last season, but after a poor start to the new campaign, they have begun to pick up some momentum in the Bundesliga. Leipzig’s midweek trip to Portugal in the Champions League could be their undoing and they have the added pressure of having never beaten Werder Bremen away from home.

AC Milan v Inter Milan – Serie A – Under 2.5 Goals – 1.75

The Milan derby will be played this weekend and both AC Milan and Inter Milan face each other for the first time since appointing new managers. On current form, these two are not likely to produce a high number of goals. In 2019, no other Serie A team have kept more clean sheets than AC Milan, whose record stands at ten now. On the other hand, Inter have not conceded goals in nine matches during the same period. For that you can anticipate a low scoring but tight affair in this one.

Lyon v PSG – Ligue 1 – Both Teams to Score – 1.40

Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain had difficult fixtures in the Champions League in midweek but who can better focus their efforts on the league in this Sunday evening fixture? We would have expected PSG to win this match had it been in Paris, but that is not the case and you can expect a very tight match. Both teams have scored in eight of the last eleven matches between these two and with Lyon and PSG first and second respectively for goals scored in Ligue 1, we are expecting another exciting clash.

Sevilla v Real Madrid – La Liga – Over 2.5 Goals – 1.50

Sevilla will take on a Real Madrid side facing serious issues at present in La Liga’s feature match of the weekend. Los Blancos have made an unbeaten start in the league but have been highly unconvincing, and they were overpowered by PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. Sevilla are brimming with confidence following their 3-0 win against Qarabaq in the Europa League. Real have seen Over 2.5 Goals in all but one of their last five outings and the same is true for four of their last five meetings with Sevilla.
