Liverpool signed Alisson Becker for a then world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper from Roma early in the transfer market. For many, this was seen as an early declaration of their title credentials, which have been impressive so far. Alisson has kept a total of five clean sheets from a possible eight in the league and he is Liverpool’s 11th outfield player. He is contributing a lot with his distribution from the back where he has averaged 80.6% passing accuracy.
Chelsea hijacked Manchester City-bound Italian midfield maestro Jorginho following the confirmation of Maurizio Sarri as head coach. The Italian had spent three years in Serie A with Sarri and for him, it was an easy decision to join the Blues. He has been central to their new style of play starting in all the Premier League games. His passing has been incredible as he averages 90% pass accuracy from the 965 minutes he has played.
Aleksandar Mitrovic is enjoying life in the Premier League, following his permanent deal from Newcastle to Fulham. He spent part of last season on loan with the Cottagers in the Championship where he scored a total of 12 goals. He is already on five goals in the top flight despite his team not playing very well. They are now a place above the relegation zone and he will be looked upon to provide leadership for the rest of the season.
Naby Keita finally completed his move from RB Leipzig to Liverpool where he has impressed. The Guinean international is a very dynamic midfielder who can fit in a number of roles. He is a technical player that likes to support both in attack and in defence. He has been deployed sparingly as one of the central midfielders and we are likely to see more of him as the season progresses.
Everton have been the better with Richarlison in their ranks. The Brazilian has been an excellent signing for the Toffees following four league goals and two assists in six outings. The score could have been better were it not for the disciplinary issues that afflict him at times. He was signed for a reported £40m from Watford in what was considered an excessive fee by many. He has proven them wrong and his overall influence in the team cannot be gainsaid.
James Maddison joined Leicester City from Championship side Norwich City in the summer. His decision is proving very enterprising when you consider that he has already established himself in the side. He has played a part in all of the last eight fixtures and his contribution is particularly telling with three goals and two assists to his name. Gareth Southgate could not help but notice his hard work and that is why he has been called up the England national side for the upcoming international break.
Joao Moutinho made the switch from Monaco to newly promoted side Wolves and he has been a mainstay in their midfield. Being a technical player with excellent defensive skills he has been protecting their back four, a job he has done with distinction. They are doing very well and currently sit seventh in the Premier League table thanks in part to a very stable side that he is at the heart of. He has scored one goal and made two assists from his eight appearances.
