Here are my tips for the weekend. We’ve got the World Cup quarter finals on Saturday, with big games in Norway on Sunday. Fingers crossed!
This is Sweden’s first appearance in the quarter-finals since 1994. They have won three of their four games so far, with a clean sheet in all of those wins. England haven’t been at this stage since 2006 and needed penalties to beat Colombia, but Harry Kane is currently top scorer in the tournament with six goals. I’m going for Under 2.5 Goals here since it has happened in seven out of ten games for both sides, and I feel that England’s firepower will see them through.
Match Tip: Under 2.5 Goals
Mr. Predictor’s Verdict: Sweden 0 v 1 England
Both of these teams won on penalties in the last round, so you can expect some tired legs here. Hosts Russia haven’t been to the quarter-finals since 1970 but have proved doubters wrong so far with nine goals. Croatia won all three of their group matches but they’ve conceded in their last two games. I think these teams will go to extra time again.
Match Tip: Both Teams to Score
Mr. Predictor’s Verdict: Russia 1 v 1 Croatia
League leaders Brann have won ten out of 15 games in the Eliteserien this season but lost for the first time last weekend when they were 4-0 down inside 21 minutes!!! However, they’re unbeaten away this season and face a side that are 12th, only one point above the relegation play-off place. Brann have won their last three matches against Bodo/Glimt, so I’m backing them here.
Match Tip: Double Chance Brann
Mr. Predictor’s Verdict: Bodo/Glimt 1 v 2 Brann
Haugesund are sixth in the league but have only won five of their past ten games, so I can’t say that they’re in great form. Luckily, they’re playing Sandefjord, who are bottom of the table on six points. They’ve lost nine of their last ten games and have only scored twice in that run. They’ve lost four of their past five games against the hosts, and I think they’ll lose again this time.
Match Tip: Haugesund Win
Mr. Predictor’s Verdict: Haugesund 1 v 0 Sandefjord
Sarpsborg haven’t won any of their last three games, but they’ve scored in 14 of their 15 league games this season and only one team has scored more than their 26 goals to date. Ranheim lost heavily in their last two away games, although they came from behind to beat Sarpsborg 2-1 last month. I’m going for a high-scoring Draw this time.
Match Tip: Over 2.5 Goals
Mr. Predictor’s Verdict: Sarpsborg 2 v 2 Ranheim
